I've been dealing with this ever since my son was about six. He and we, had a really big scare when he was around 9 - he got an infection by his thumb, we went to the dr. and it turned out to be a staph infection - the kind that turns into that gross flesh-eating disease! His cleared up, but we really scared him with that possibility and he stopped biting for a while. He is now 14 and still doing it. I'm just about to put him back on that nail polish you get from the drugstore that tastes really bad - and I'm gonna put it on him every day. When he was younger, the threat of putting bright nailpolish worked really well. I've talked to him till I'm blue in the face, I've threatened him, and of course I have bribed him unmercifully. So I don't know if any of this has given you ideas, but I just don't know why they do it, really. My son says he doesn't even realize that he is doing it - that he does it when he is concentrating, reading, etc. Now what he doesn't know, and please don't tell him (!), is that I bit my nails until I was engaged. I stopped because I wanted my ring to look pretty on a pretty hand! I have never told him that, and never will.

then she cleaned under her nicely groomed
nails with a nail clipper file onto a piece of paper and

Dip the nails into a bit of chilli sauce. They won't keep biting them and it's not harmful.

dont. I dont bite my nails, I never have, and they get really long and they break easily because I rarely ever have the time to clip them. your son would probably have a harder time clipping them than he will biting them so just leave it. unless its a health issue,,, but in most cases it isnt.

Yeah.....good luck with that. My mom has been trying to get me to stop all my life. It hasn't worked.
She even tried fake nails. I bit the fake nails off, too.
