Its not that they think they are its just(from what I got), they want to keep both worlds seprate, and the only way they can do that is to scare the monsters into thinking that kids are dangerous and poisonous or toxic.

I think they think there dangerous because the say the kids have germs that can cause bad stuff in there monster body remember the part where they shave the monster that has a sock on it's back.

Because if the kids like the monsters the monster wont be able to scare them which with interfere with collecting screams in turn with give them a power shortage.

In the world where monsters live it's the opposite of the human world, therefore in an opposite world, monsters are afraid of kids.

Because the monsters were really very nice and the kids were never to know this. Because then they would not be scared at all and would go to sleep very quickly

The monsters thought that kids were deadly to them.
Obviously, Boo proved them wrong.
It's just showing how people can be predudice against things they don't know or are afraid of.

I think its because they (the monsters) didnt really understand humans. They feared them because of misunderstandings and ignorance.
