Depends on the fool. If someone says or does an apparently foolish thing I first look to see why I think it is foolish. It may be only my preconceptions or prejudices that make it seem so. New insight or wisdom invariably challenges established concepts; it's invariably seen as heresy initially. (Though not all heresy is new insight). So I may learn much from a "fool". That was the role of the jester in history, and why jesters had licence to offend anyone. On the other hand, I admire people willing to appear foolish if they are willing to learn. We all learn most by making "mistakes" or seeming foolish. It is only when a "fool" has nothing to teach me, or is unprepared to learn, that I pity them. To my mind, that encompasses a large part of the human species - as evidenced by the anguish of war, climate change, and so on, and the closed minds of the religionists devoted to dogmas of gods or economics and the rest. So, for me, "fools" are a blessing, and a curse.

You would be a fool to pity the fool. It's probably his own fault that he's a fool. With the wealth of information available to people in this day and age there is no reason to be a fool, unless you are just lazy. I laugh at the fool. Ha, what a fool!

No. Pity is a bad feeling. Would not a fool, who caused you to have pity, be smarter than you are? Your pity has no effect on a fool. It only has a negative effect on you. Why would you inflict that on yourself?

Yes, I pity a fool.
I am a fool. I believe everyone is in their own way. A person would be truly a fool not to realize this.
