Bruises don't usually take that long to appear although they will darken as time goes by. Any blow to the head with significant bruising should be seen by a doctor in case of concussion or worse.

Forget looking for bruising. You shuld have called an ambulance immediately and got the kid to the hospital. Once the bruising shows that means there may be bleeding inside the skull. That can be very dangerous and can lead to permanent disability.

IF A CHILD GETS AN INJURY TO THE HEAD HEY SHOULD BE SEEN IMMEDIATELY BY A DOCTOR. THEY COULD HAVE SOME BLEEDING IN THEIR HEAD WITHOUT YOU KNOWING IT.

swelling or bruising would probably appear within two hours.
was it simply not noticed until then?
