I have just been watching footage of two soccer stars who died instantly on the football pitch in 2004 and it took less than 2 seconds for them to die. Why does it happen so fast?

People are just stating the obvious which I know already. What I want to know is why there is no writhing around in agony for a good few seconds before death. It is completely instant, usually they don't even get chance to close their eyes..

Well, they didn't actually die instantly. When blood flow stops to the brain, the brain can still go on for about a minute or so before actually dieing, but they did lose control over all muscles, resulting in what seems to be death, but is actually just paralysis caused by the heart attack. And since they have no pulse, they are pronounced dead, but people can still be resuscitated if they are treated quickly enough. Hope that answers your question.

If you want the correct and complete answer you have to take an Anatomy and Physiology course, but the simple answer is that a heart attack stops the blood flow to heart, which kills the heart muscle, which means the heart can't pump blood any more. This deprives body cells and specifically brain cells from oxygen, Then brain cells die. Once brain cells are dead the person is dead too (since the heart cells are already dead).

They don't always. I've heard of and even experienced a person talking for a few minutes after a massive heart attack until all the blood that was pumped into the body by the heart (which is now not pumping) ceaces to flow, then they die. A massive stroke on the other hand---2 seconds.

the blood carries oxygen and the heart pumps the blood,so u die cause u need oxygen
