The Tampa Bay Devil Rays released first baseman Travis Lee on Sunday.

Lee is the major leagues' career fielding percentage leader (.997) among first baseman with 750 or more games played. He struggled offensively this season, hitting .224 with 11 homers and 31 RBIs in 114 games.

"There was no playing time left for him here," Devil Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "We thought it would give him an opportunity to catch on with someone else possibly for these last couple weeks. There was no real plan for him now and in the future with us."

im guesing there going with younger players

He is a free agent. It is not a sure thing that he will end up with any team, as a veteran who is not very productive overall these days, it is cheaper to use a young player rather than sign him.
