Hello. I have a Dell CD that came with my Dell computer that you can use to format the computer and wipe everything out. Well, there is a tiny, but deep, scratch on the tip of the disk that my dog dig while he chewed up the jewel case the cd was in. Is there any way that I can copy this cd to a blank cd? I've tried using the windows cd writing wizard by making a data cd but this didn't work. I do not have any type of Nero or anything like that on my computer. But any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

i would try to get some disk imaging software like blindwrite or alcohol120 from a filesharing site ... but if its scratched too deep you may be out of luck ... they sell cd scratch remover kits but if the top label side is scratched its probably done...

If the portion of the cd that had data on it is messed up then you won't be able to make a correct copy of the restore cd you will have to contact dell customer service...

If you think the cd isn't damaged that bad you can download deepburner from http://deepburner.com this free cd burner will do the trick for you.

You will have to actually copy the disc.

A good free writing program is:

If you call Dell they might provide you with another Cd if your CD is too far broken.

I know that my Dell laptop has a utility partition that restores the computer ti its original configuration.

The scratch seems to have been in the "zero sector" which is a disaster! That makes the data there irrecoverable.

However, I think you're trying to back up your Dell Drivers in a CD. Most of these drivers will, anyway have had updates that you would not have known about that could have improved the performance of your product.

What I'd suggest is, since you forgot to mention the model number, that you download the required drivers from : http://www.driver-downloads.com/

Alternatively, you could see http://www.nodevice.com/driver/company/Dell.html
And http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R106214&SystemID=PDA_AXIM_X50&os=PPCA&osl=en&deviceid=7464&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=4&formatcnt=1&fileid=137112

This time, when you make the back up CD, please ensure that you keep it out of dogs reach.

All the best.

Cheers

put the disk in the drive if a menu opens closee that off then right click the drive click on explorer then right click the desktop click on new/ new folder
then go back to the open window on the drive and at the top click on edit / select all
then click on edit /copy
then go to the new folder open that
then on that new folder click on edit/paste
the files will all copy over to the new folder
when that is done remove the recovery cd from the drive , then put in a (cd) (R) in the rewriter ,drive
then right click the rewrite drive and click on explorer
then go to the new folder
and click on edit/select all
then click on edit/copy
then go to the rewriter drive at the top click on edit/ paste
the files will copy from the new folder to the rewrite drive then on the open drive window
click on file / write these files to cd
then click on ok
then the files will burn on to the new cd
if you cant copy them to the hard drive from the damage recovery cd that meens the recovery cd is damage so bad it cant be used so you can call dell Technical Support and ask them can they send you a new system recovery cd , you will have to pay for it and with dellllllllllllllllllllllllllll there ask about $40. give that dog a telling off , lol

Call dell and tell them what happened.Maybe they will help you.I ran in to this with HP.They sent one right out and no more problems. You can try some tooth paste but if it's to deep it won't do any good.
