Doesn't everybody have the opportunity to work hard (2 jobs if they have to) in order to succeed, maybe start a small business, etc? Why is it that the losers in this economic competition complain that the winners have won?
If you think the rich have a great deal when it comes to taxes, why not work 2 jobs and become rich too so you can have that same great deal? Otherwise, it sounds like just a bunch of whining to me.

If having more money to pay taxes with means you should pay more taxes, then how come they don't have to pay more for theater tickets or for restaurant bills, etc. Your answer makes no sense.

Yvan: Taxation was the cornerstone of the American Revolution. It can be argued that it really is the end-all be-all of America.
Also don't confuse the tax system with charity which I support.

it is not how much you earn, but rather it is how much you save.
its all about good decision making
the rich keep getting richer because they continue to make the decisions and do the things that got them rich.
the poor keep getting poorer because they keep making decisions and doing things that got them poor.
the top 5% of income earners pay over 60% of all taxes.

It's kinda like animal farm apparently some are "more equal'.
What's really the problem is that politicians have figured out how to have it both ways. Tax the rich, use the money to buy the votes of the poor and stay in power. The Fair Tax would end that nonsense which is why it will be so hard to pass.
I'm not sure I want to be a winner and work 80 hrs a week so that I can turn over half of what I make to the government. I soon as I can I'm going to stop working and put my money in tax free bonds. Then the losers can find somebody else to steal from.
It would probably take an Atlas Shrugged type disaster to correct the current mess.

The rich pay an equal amount in proportion to the public goods they use and protection provided by the government because they have more assets to protect.
Whining is complaining that the rich have to pay more taxes.
That tax amount happens to be more because they pull down more money. You can always make more money as long as your income grows.
Added: Economically it is common sense. The sales tax is a flat tax that everyone pays to the state which is a different matter. As I said before, the tax system is quite fair, the most unfair thing is sales tax.
Ever heard of flying first class, or PPO vs. HMO healthcare? The people can afford more, pay more and get more services. How about eating at a classy restaurant instead of MacDonalds? The movie tickets are quite arbitrary.

First, working HARD doesn't equate to rich or being rich. A lot of Americans work harder then their first world counterparts and continue to be some of the poorest people in developed world.
Secondly, men were "created equally" concerning rights...not taxation. Keep in mind that the rich have a salary that is unequal to the rest of us...whether they work hard or not. If you want them to be taxed like the rest of us then maybe they should make the same as everyone else.

It funny that when the rich don't like the way something is going, they hire lobbyists to whine in their behalf to the government full time, but as soon as the government wants to tax them to fund these initiatives, they start whining about government meddling into the affairs of private citizens.
Also, because we live in a society. That means we're not savages to let families die of hunger in the street just because that fits some ideology of 'capitalism'. Capitalism is just a word: It's not the be-all end-all of things.

They have more money to pay the taxes with.
If people are poor then they shouldn't be wasting their money on theater tickets in the first place. Taxes are required. That is why the rich pay more since they have more money. Your whole question doesn't make sense.

The rich DON'T pay more taxes....most of them have tax shelters and more deductions than you can imagine - some of them illegal, but allowed by the Bush administration - and a great many of them pay almost nothing or next to nothing in taxes. That's thanks to the Republipukes who favor the rich. With the last Bush "tax cut" I actually had to pay $200 more this past year - thanks Georgey Boy. Guess I'm not rich enough.

While all men were decalred by our founding fathers to have been created equally, that does not mean that they are all driven by the same desires. Did it ever occur to you that some may not be motivated in this life by money? Obviously, that is your motiviation and concern, but hopefully it is not shared my most.
