I am also an AS patient.

Mars has it much worse than I do. Men who have it diagnosed in their teens tend to have it much rougher.

This picture gives a pretty good idea of the deformation - that is not a natural slouch.

The inflammation that leads to that is painful, every day and every step of the way. Plus, with the limited flexibility he is probably constantly tweaking muscles and other soft tissue in his back.

And I am sure he has also experienced many of the other common inflammations associated with the disease.

He was diagnosed in the late 60's. He was apparently mostly treated with painkillers. Treatment, with anti-inflammatories and biologics, is a lot better now, although there is no cure, and there is no recovery.
