not really much different other than that. I'm the oldest of 2 (I have a younger brother, who is very straight, and he's left-handed). I'm right-handed (I'm actually a "bottle" redhead), did good in school, never did drugs, used to smoke, but I quit, drink occasionally, parents were together until my dad died, and I was close to both, neither cheated on each other. went to Sunday school every week, never was much of a trouble-maker, lived in the 'burbs, not poor, but not rich. no one I know of in my family is gay. I wasn't abused. didn't know anyone gay when I was growing up. I just felt like an "outsider" and didn't figure out why until my late teens.

There are four of us in total. Some similarities, some differences. As for believing I don't belong or thinking I should be royalty - no. We all love each other, although we don't always see eye to eye.
Child number one: Gay. Worked in the same field for 13 years, 10 of those years at the present location ... owns a home ... has helped numerous people ... has never been in trouble with the law.
Child number two: Straight. Schizophrenic ... rents an apartment and living independently ... very selfish, but not a user ... has been in trouble with the law due to illness, but on meds now and no recent legal problems.
Child number three: Straight. Never held a job longer than 2 paychecks ... still lives with mom at 40 ... uses people ... been in jail more than free.
Child number four: Straight. Married ... owns a home ... works for a major university for the past 5 years ... has helped numerous people ... never been in trouble with the law.

Nothing weird about this at all. I always thought I was much different than the rest of the family, and not just because of Gay stuff either. we did not hav a lot of money either, but I always wanted to emulate those who had more money, so I developed style and taste on a budget! These things were not very important to the rest of the family, mostly to me.

I have a brother that is 3 years older than I am. He and I are complete opposites in every way except that we both like girls. Even though we have the same mother and father, he and I look nothing alike. He is 6'4 and I am 5'2. He has tan skin and I have white skin. He is successful and conservative and I am not. He is the poster child for Great Genetics and I am a poster child for Genetic Abnormalities. He looks like our mother and grandfather while I look nothing like any other family member. We also grew up at the bottom of the barrel scraping by for food. He succeeded with ease while I struggle just to get by.

My brother is straight. I am queer.
My brother is married with kids. I am single, with no kids.
My brother was always good with math, computers, and business. I was always good with languages and social sciences.
My brother was always about earning money.
I was always about enjoying my job, even if the pay sucked.
My brother and I both have more than one university degree.
But mine are in sociology and social work and health care.
His are in accounting and an MBA.
I am a social worker. He is a business analyst.
I vote left. He votes right.
He has a few potentially deadly food allergies.
I have a bazillion allergies, none of which threaten my life.
He's a vegetarian. I eat meat.
He can play the political game. I wear my heart on my sleeve.
He's a waterfront homeowner with a fancy car and an SUV.
I live in voluntary poverty, in solidarity with many of my neighbours, and have given up my old beater for public transit and a bicycle. He's upwardly mobile. I like only working 3 days a week and having time to do volunteer work or look after neighbours' kids, do art, etc.
He and his wife are scared of my neighbourhood. I love it.
His closest friends are a family we've known since I was an infant, and a gang of his grade 8-12 friends from our hometown.
My closest friends are NOT from our hometown, but from university, from my current church in the city, and people I met through going to (then working at) the same summer camp every year for 14 summers. He never went to a summer camp. I LIVED for camp.
My family didn't go to church. I did, and ovrseas to Bible School too.
My brother loved to play football and street hockey, and coached soccer. I hate any sport involving a ball or projectile, but love canoeing and camping and swimming.
My brother got on with my dad well. I got on better with my mom.
I'm somewhat anti-capitalist, anti-globlization, pro-fair trade.
He helps businesses increase their profit for a living.
No clones in this family!

Most of us have similarities and differences from our family. I am the oldest of 4 kids. I look like my sisters, we do have some similar interests. But we also have differences I'm shorter than all of them, I'm into history, and I love fantasy. My sisters all have distinct views and interests.
My partner has a twin brother. They are very different indivduals, not only is she gay and he's straight, but personality wise, and skills. They don't look a like at all, but they were born only 2 min. apart.
I don't think our differences prove that we are gay, just that humans have so much variety and they make us exciting.

All I know is that you have a purpose in life and right now it is putting up with those idiots I'm sure you know who I mean. You don't have to have similarities to your family in any other way than I hope they are like you and have your compassion for people who deserve it. Good luck in all you do. Mare
