when my internet speed is down, i usually reset my router if you have one, or i would restart my computer. if you wireless access point, make sure no one is using your internet illegally. always set up a network code to prevent annoynomous users from using your internet

try running the test with zone alarm shut down and make sure none of zone alarms services are running in the background, namely vsmon or any thing else relating to zone alarm by using task manager ( the processes tab ) Then do the same again with it running and see if that effects the speed test, my guess is that it will as zone alarm is a firewall that has to monitor all in coming and out going traffic. Also the kaspersky internet security might have a firewall as well so make sure thats shut down when you do the original test above. your router should have a firewall already ( might be worth while checking out your router specs to make sure ) so you may not need kaspersky or zone alarm, in which case you only need anti virus and anti spyware software.

How long has it been slow? Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and select tast manager. Then go to the network tab. Look and see if your computer is using the network. Windows has had a couple of patches come out lately it may just be that your system is automatically downloading one.

alot of programs (not even spyware) are probably running on your computer slowing it down terrible. You have end theses programs. You can do that by going to task manager which is by clicking the right mouse button on the start bar then clickink task manager. Also if you have a wireless connection that is not WEP, security enabaled ( anyone can jack of your bandwitch) people are probably jacking of your internet supply.

If you are using broadband/cable then try making your browsing history file size in internet explorer to 10mb. You can find this option in tools-->Internet options.

Go ahead and run defrag and checkdisk. Also run disk cleanup. If that doesn't do it, go to "tools" in your browser and delete cookies, files and clear your history, too. That should get you set.
