Traditionally linemen are the big guys that stand on an imaginary line set where the ball is set. Linebackers are there to prevent the ball from going up the middle of the field. However in the zone blitz, a defensive lineman will act as a linebacker as he backs off the line while a linebacker goes in for the blitz.

CAPITAL x's are Linemen. little x's are lineBACKERS. Linebackers try to clean up, what the linemen CAN'T get. THIS illustration is DEFENSE ONLY of course. There can be 5 DOWN linemen also, the preferred defense for a certain RUN play. This is called a 5-2 defense. The illustration below, is a 4-3 defense.

No, a lineman and linebacker are two different players on the football field, a lineman can be a player on the frontline of the offense or defense, a linebacker plays strictly on defense.

Not the front guys like Nose Tackle and Def Tackle. But at the ends, teams are all running a 3-4 or a 4-3. Either way that puts the outside guys in the position of both Defense End and linebacker.

linemen are there to stop the run up front and pressure the passer the linebackers may blitz every now and than but they usually look for the pass or run if the lineman didnt stop it lineman are alot bigger too linebackers are pretty big too but they are alot quicker than most lineman at both postitions u gotta be a blood thirsty ruthless beast tho

no no no. Lineman are bigger and stronger. Linebackers are quicker and faster. Linebackers line up behind the linemen. Thats why they are called LINE-BACKERS. Linebackers typically make more tackles then Defensive tackles, unless your Julius Peppers. hope this helped.
