The popular theory has it that birds evovled from dinosaurs. That may be true but sense Archeopterix is 150 million years old, birds would have to have evovled from relatively ancient dinosaurs. What I think is likely is that many theropods such as Velocirapters and T-rex evolved from birds. There are many reasons why a bird might evovle into a giant land predator. There are many advantages in its structure, respiration, muscles, and cooling system. Interestingly, even the ancestors of tricerotops looks like a bird.
I think the needs of flight would result in the rapid evolution in birds. They are at least 150 million years old and I have read that there is evidence, though not well accepted, of bird fossils from the Permian in the late Paleozoic Era. That would sure be a shock to paleontology if prooved true. There are many features of T-rex which makes it bird like. It even has a wish bone. I have heard bone head theories that the wish bone evolved in Velociraptor as a grabbing mechanism. A wishbone is a structure which stores energy. The large breast muscles power the wings down and the wishbone pulls the wing back up saving the bird the prescious weight of addional muscles. To me it seems unlikely that a wishbone would develop in T-rex. It seems more likely that a bird evolved an extremely high metabolism, efficient muscles, very efficient cooling and respiratory system at least 150 million years ago, nearly a hundred million years before T-rex. These are traits birds have and require. Their bones are hollow to make them light and strong and are connected to the respiratory system and also serve the purpose of disipating heat. This is the perfect combination of features for an animal to grow into a large land predator because as an animal grows large, more efficient muscles and a mechanism for getting rid of excess heat would be extremely beneficial. As mammals developed better respiratory systems on land and then reconquered the oceans as whales and dolphins, perhaps birds evolved better metabolisms in the air environment and then reconquered the land as dinosaurs. This is only my theory though I am sure I am not the only one who has figured it out. I think my brother pretty much came to the same conclusions. It seems to me that main stream science is not ready for a dinosaur that may be more capable than a mammal if it is indeed descended from a bird. They prefer something primitive. I am a strong believer that dinosaurs were probably very special creatures. I started thinking that maybe dinosaurs such as triceratops might be evolved from birds. Even the very first dinosaur hunters recognized the resemblance and labeled them Ornithischian, a "bird hipped" dinosaur. After coming to this hypothesis, I read about Archeoceratops (ancestor to Protoceratops and Triceratops) which I believe was a recent find. Looks alot like a bird, don't you think
