He stares at me all the time but i dont know if he likes me or not and he's been going out with his girlfriend for almost a year now. im to shy to talk to him in school but someitmes i say hi and also he always starts convos with me on instant messanger

I had the same problem. My opinion is to just stay friends with him. You wouldn't want to break the couple up if they've been together for a year. Time is the answer. just wait and see what happens, but don't lead him on.

i have the same problem, i like this guy that has a girlfriend, and they've been going out for almost a year now, my only difference is that he told everyone that knew me that he liked me.
so i have solid proof
but you on the other hand don't, so flirt with him when his girlfriend isn't around, and then he know's that you like him, and if he doesn't flirt back, then he doesn't like you, just make sure that his girlfriend isn't their, then he'll get in trouble if he flirts back!

please remember this.
if he does dig you and he would cheat on her with you...dont think twice that he wont DO IT TO YOU if you two were to date eventually.
stay away from the creep...let me guess, hes hott, popular, he understands you, he gives you attention, your perfect guy -- one of the above and you cant control talking to him?! think about what it would be like to have some girl talking to your man (flirting wise as you sort of described). i dont think youd like it that much, would you? so, dont be dumb...and if he does cheat on her with you...your really stupid because a zebra doesnt change his stripes, and hes bound to pounce on another girl thats not his girlfriend again.

It's not unusual for guys with girlfriends to always have their eye out for something "on the side", so please don't interpret this to mean he likes you other than as an opportunity for a little "variety."!

i would start flirting with him and then when you think you are ready to ask him if he likes you be sure he answers you right there and if he doesn't answer you when you ask him then don't mess with him cause he is only tring to use as his doormatt i'm not tring to be mean but i am being honest.
