yes, you need to get it checked out. IT can mean the degeneration (or breakdown) of cartakige. running is very hard impact and can do a large deal of damage to your knee. take it easy for a bit and get it checked out

I once had an small fracture in the patella on the knee. It healed great, but I've always had a click in it since. That's been 25 years; and during that time I have always been athletic. Except for the clicking noise when I bend and flex my knee, I've never had any other problems.

Sometimes I get popping when I extend my knee. This site below says that popping and clicking are fairly common occurrences and often not a cause for concern, UNLESS the popping and clicking are associated with pain. I'm assuming since you didn't mention pain that it's not hurting. If you do start getting pain, by all means see your family doc or a sports medicine doc.

Popping in the knees can occur at any age. Even young people will sometimes describe a popping sound with certain movements. Young women who present with this symptom along with some dull aching in the front of the knee usually have a condition called chondromalacia patella. This is a condition where the cartilage behind the kneecap softens. Usually this problem responds to conservative measures such as exercises, medications, and physical therapy.

I'm 20 and my knees have clicked pretty much my whole life, when I bend them. I don't think it's anything to worry about, unless tyhere's pain. I guess some people just have clicky knees :)

It's most likely the tendons in your knee snapping. If you run so much the tendons are likely to stiffen up when you're not moving. Do warm ups before running and cool-down exercises afterwards.
Look into getting proper shoes for running as opposed to using any old shoes. Not having proper support can cause damage to your joints.

there's this saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"....if it doesn't hurt, don't try too hard to change what you are doing. If you have been running for a long time it could just be the cause of some wear and tear on your joint, maybe somthing with the gliding of your knee cap (aka...patellar alignment). If it bothers you that much, get it checked out. but if it doesn't hurt, i wouldn't worry about it :)

This happeneds to me too !, but no am 12 and maybe u feel i know i did and ever since it cracks butu if urs hurt u should really go to the doctor. . . When u were younger do u rem. ur leg being in pain. . . ? that could be side effic because i used to cry whn this happened to but now that am 12 i have not had that pain . . .

If it doesn't hurt then don't worry. Sounds like just some cartilage, harmless. Could also be fluid in the joint, also not a big deal.

u might have water on the knee...thats what they told me (I'm 26, and later I found out it was rhuematoid arthritis, so hope its not that)
