I am pregnant!! I am 5 weeks pregnant...blood test confirmed.. I just had a question though..do doctors sometimes suggest taking another blood test in a weeks time just to make sure the levels of HGC are progressing? Has this happened to you??

Yes this is very normal. When you find out very early, as you have, they want to make sure that the pregnancy is progressing. Don't worry, I'm sure everything is just fine!!

I didn't have the blood test for confirmation of pregnancy at all. But by the time my dr's appointment came, I was already two months along, so the pee on a stick test, and then the ultrasound was pretty much conclusive.

But my cousin had multiple tests done. In her case, after they did the first test, the levels of hgc were very, very high. Like high enough that she could've been pregnant with quadruplets. She had taken fertility drugs to get pregnant with her first child, about two years ago, and hadn't taken any this time. The second test showed hgc levels high enough for triplets, and the third for twins. Then finally it was far enough along for an ultrasound, and there was only one embryo. (Thank goodness!)

And I know that if you are having trouble conceiving, the doctors will want to monitor you closer, especially right at the beginning.

Good luck, and congratulations!

this did not happen to me for my 4 kids, but they are a bit older. My neighbor who was artificially inseminated did have that done so that they could monitor her pregnancy better and also it can give them a better timeline as to how far into the pregnancy you are and in some cases if your levels are extremely high that could indicate twins. I know I had the test taken, it just wasn't the next week though. Also keep in mind that all doctors do things a bit differently and collecting data is a big part of what they do. oh, congratulations it will be the best thing you ever do. i have 4 boys and if I had more money I'd keep going.

They usually only do a second test if you have a history of problems having babies. In the early stages of pregnancy, your HGC levels double every 2-3 days.

Congrats and Good luck.

it just depends on your doctor and previous experience with being pregnant!! Most doctors only check your blood pressure, weight, and size of your stomach as well as check on the baby to make sure everything looks good after they have confirmed you're pregnant!! If you start having problems or complications, they may do another blood test to make sure you're not having a miscarriage!!

Congratulations and Good Luck

well you do lots of blood work at the begining and at the end. So it's pretty normal. They test for that and everything.
