Acting, relating to other occupations?

Question

I was once an aspiring actress and I once was told by a counselor that occupations, such as teaching actually involve a lot of acting skill. So I was just wondering, could acting skills help in other occupations, such as business deals, PR, and maybe some other types of work?

I took acting in high school for 3 years and one semester in college. I haven't in a play or took a course since 2003.

We all act in life...As a wife, a mother, a neighbor, a secretary, a counselor, a professional....we are all acting to some degree. But, I am a professional actress. And have done all the above. Now I get paid for acting as an actress.

Oh my goodness yes... a solid foundation in the Meisner method will help you repeat your customers statements back to him, so that he can hear for himself that you have sold him on your product. Stella Adler would be proud to hear you living truthfully in the moment, as you answer the phone "Hello... Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe... can you hold please?"

I can't imagine any of my acting training being usefull in any field other than acting. Well... I suppose it would help you as a teacher....

-lawyers
-receptionists (trust me on this. I'm an actor and I was a receptionist for 2 1/2 years. I can't tell you how many times I would hang up the phone and announce "...and the oscar goes to...."

the second Caesar, Augustus, asked on his death bed "did I play the part well?". He was making a statement that much of leadership is acting.
