Very common... and normal. If you want to lower your chances of having a bowel movement during birth... try not to eat anything too heavy such as meats the couple of days before your due date (though nothing is a guarantee). Vegetables go through your system much faster. Take comfort in the fact that even if you have a bowel movement, they will clean it up so fast that it will hardly be noticed. Trust me when I tell you... it'll be the last thing on your mind when you're pushing. At that point, you won't care much about it.
I was worried about this to no end. I kept to a light diet which probably helped. When the time came... I was in so much pain from the pressure that I couldn't care less about being embarrassed. I had also warned my husband ahead of time that if it should happen, he better not say a word EVER!

Yes, it is very common. It was something that I used to worry about every time I was pregnant. Luckily out of my 4 pregnancies I never did...or at least my ex husband always concealed that information since I was so worried about it. But, both my sister and sister in law had bowel movements while pushing. The stool comes out and the doctor quickly wipes it away, and continues to encourage you to push. They won't mention it at all. It's natural and nothing to worry about. Although, I know how it feels to worry about it lol. If you are worried about it you can request an enima...some hospitals require one of these anyway. Enimas help labor progress too. :)

During Childbirth you mean? Yes it is common. Don't worry, you probably won't have an entire movement, if it happens at all, and the nurses and doc's are accustomed to seeing it so don't worry about what they'll think.
They'll also clean you up quick so no feces will come into contact with the baby. Rest easy!!

I don't know if anyone has studied exactly how often this happens, but yes it does happen often just prior to delivery.
If you are concerned, you may wish to request an enema before hand.
Remember childbirth is a wonderful process that is natural and no aspect of it should be a cause for shame or embarrassment. Health care providers are accustomed to this happening and you should be treated with nothing but total respect and privacy.

I hope to God you're having bowel movements during pregnancy! If not, you've got a serious blockage/problem and need immediate medical attention! Is this really what you meant to ask? Are you talking about during a delivery?

Do you mean during pregnancy or during birth? During pregnancy a woman generally has a bowel movement every day like normal.
Before a woman goes into labour her hormones will cause her to empty her bowel as preparation for the birth. If she's at a hospital, she'll be encouraged to take a pill that will cause her to empty her bowel before she has to push. That makes things less messy.

I think you mean delivery. Yes it is. Especially if you drink Castor oil to try to induce pregnancy. But it is no big deal to the nurses/doctors, it is quite common. They will not tell you and usually you will never know unless someone that is with you tells you.
