First of all, the concept of "too much" is a matter of personal opinion, which poses a few problems when trying to answer a question like yours. I'm sure there's some quantity or combination of accessorizing that virtually everyone would agree is "too much," but I'm also sure there's a gray area. And, of course, there's context -- in some cultures or groups, different degrees of accessorizing are considered "normal" and different amounts of accessorizing may be "normal" depending on the time of day or the occasion.

People accessorize for 3 main reasons: 1) decoration; 2) personal statement; and/or 3) conspicuous display of status or wealth. "Liking pretty things" isn't a reason to accessorize. People who simply enjoy jewelry or fashion may buy accessories, but they don't always wear them. That's an entirely different topic.

What you wear says something about you, and your relationship with yourself and to society. Wearing too many accessories is like shouting. Whether it's the wearer's intention or not, they will draw a degree of attention to themselves and people will make judgments about them based on how they interpret this display.

The question would be: Is this negative or positive? That depends on how that person feels about the reaction they're getting.

Of course, there's also the possible inconvenience of setting off metal detectors in buildings with access security, and taking the time to remove all the metal accessories, not to mention the embarrassment.

Accessories may slow a person down if they have to run or rush around for any reason.

The more accessories, the greater the chance that something will snag, get caught on a handle, fall off, or get left behind.

Probably the worst negative, fashion-wise, is that too many accessories usually means that nothing stands out. There's no focal point. People won't see each item being worn as a special piece. In fashion, it's not true that "if some is good, more is better." Of course, that doesn't mean people can't wear a LOT of accessories. That's the difference between people who have a sense of style and those who don't. And if someone isn't sure about their sense of style, "Less is more."

you'll look like mr. T. also it can take away from your outfit if you have to much accessories going over board. you want on most outfits a few nice peaces but you don't want it to take away from what your wearing or that being the biggest part standing out.

Unless you have some nice bold jewelery you can get away with it if your wearing a solid colour say black or brown and you want to add something chunky as a necklace as the sweator is so plain you can get away with adding accessory on it.

The negative side is wearing too much causes you to look like a Christmas tree. Also, if you wear earrings that are too heavy, it causes your ear lobes to sag. This never looks appealing later in life. Then, you must make sure your jewelry matches your clothing. If you are wearing something delicate and petite, go for something like a chain and pendant, or a silver necklace, watch, and dangling earrings. Good luck. I hope this helps!

well, first of all my boyfriend called me a christmas tree (seems to be a widely used term) - actually no wonder because I was showing off the colour combination red green blue silver...

..but the worst sides of overdoing the accessories is that your bagcharms get caught on door knobs, your long dangly earrings get hooked to your knitted jumper, your huge ring on your finger slices open the palm of your hand while you are washing your hands ( you are of course too lazy to take it off), your bracelets and ankle chains tingle so loudly you can't hear the cars coming when you cross the road and you constantly have to roll up miniature little balls of chewing gum to stick underneath your bindi in order to prevent it dropping off your forehead.

Depending on what you are doing - could be dangerous. Especially if you are near power tools or electrical gear. They can also get caught on other things (think scratched car doors) and torn sweaters.
