The Oilers fastest hat-trick was one of the slowest among the league (13 teams have had players complete hat-tricks in less than a minute) so it was inevitable that it would be broken.

When compared to Mosienko's feat, Ryan Smyth's hat trick isn;t all that outstanding and isn't such a big deal

I never thought he would. Not very many will break very many of Gretzky's records. To name a few records that will never be broke, 163 assists in a season, 92 goals in a season. His career record for assists and points. Maybe somebody will get 900 career goals. I als think he will stand alone in 200 point seasons. The one who came the closest was Mario Lemieux with 199.

just for the Oilers not the fastest ever in the NHL

it was Bill Mosienko of the Chicago Blackhawks, in 21 seconds, in 1952.

I think it's great! Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!! That's one Oiler record that Wayne's name won't be at the top of the list. I think that is great!
