SENEGAL piled their misery as they won 1-0 in the opening match. Thierry Henry sent-off in the second match against URUGUAY as FRANCE were held to a goalless dull draw. their hopes of qualifying to the round of 16 were quickly erased as DENMARK won 2-0 in the final match of the group.
FRANCE was the first defending champions to bow out in the 1st round of the FIFA World Cup history.

Yahz. Because zidane was injured during the world cup 2002. And by they way, the won the euro 2000 as champions. I think it's the record for now. It's always so funny to hear people who don't even know that the proper word for soccer is football talking about this fantastic game. Come on dude, we kicked Brazilian team's *** 3-0 in 1998 final. We deserved to be world champion.
