Report it stolen to the police and hopefully the serial number will pop up somewhere, at a pawn shop or on e-bay, etc. Hope you find it.

You can't trace it even if they connect to the Internet. Unless it had a GPS device, there is no way to find that laptop anywhere on this earth. Only coincidence (recognizing other guy's computer as yours) will do it.

if your name is not on a report-it does not matter if the stolen lap top belongs to you. if someone is trying to sell you one for cheap-don't buy it.
