A purchaser could mean different things. If your talking about just product replacement it would be more just keeping in contact with vendors of the products and making sure product is flowing properly making sure purchase orders are being made. I am the Regional Operations for the company that I work for and I set up some of the controls for the local branches to do their own purchasing. The correct information for product usage must be set up and could come down to the purchaser to make sure this is set up correctly. Pricing may be a responsibility of a purchaser. You would want to make sure your purchasing as low as you can to maximize company profits. Many companies have different guidelines for purchasing. I am not sure if this was much help. My father was a purchaser for over 30 years. I'd say what had my dad worry the most was making sure he always had the necessary parts in for the lines to run... he always said, "If I don't do my job, people won't work... and they need their paycheck." He would often go to places to pick up parts himself if they weren't going to be there on time. When he started his career, he had three secretaries; when he ended it, he had NONE... everything is computerized and dad would put in all his own orders and basically do everything required. He would walk into the plant to make sure the parts were actually there... you'd be surprised how many times he was told the parts were delivered but they were not. Dad made sure the parts he purchased were ready for the lines. They threw him quite a retirement bash when he left... and I truly believe that my dad and his ways of doing business will be missed.

1) Find new vendor do price comparison with current vendor.
2) Need to learn good communicate skill to get the lowest price in high quality products.
3) Need to know the product knowledge and marketing.
4) Be a good and honest buyer for your company!
