Women are not minorities. They are treated as such because men want power and control. They are blinded by the desire for power and control that resulted in abusing the women.
Even men get abused when one of them desire power and control more than the rest.

It appears that when you say, "treated like" minorities, you have heard the expression "women & minorities" and you grasp that more than half the population are women. Step back and consider that women are placed in a category with minorities because of legislation to prevent descrimination against these groups. Why do we need this? Discrimination. And, the people who are "minorities" in the U.S., people of color -- african, asian and latino -- actually represent the majority of people in the world! It is about power relationships and who has power over whom. If I understand your question, why are they treated badly? The white male is the model or standard by which everyone else is measured.

Actually, more than half of the world is female. During ancient times, women were never the hunters or the breadwinners. Women's jobs were childbearing and looking after the future generation of the clan. They were to be protected, instead of protecting, and had been taught to be subservient to the males because males had the power to hunt and fight. Key word: power -which is what men had.
Minorities usually differ from the majority in terms of power. In modern times, we do not need the hunting skills that our ancestors needed. Intelligence and social skills are quickly becoming the benchmark for power, subtituting hunting skills. In this case, there is no reason why women should lose out to men, except for the fact that they have to change their belief that they are inferior to men, which is difficult to do because it is a belief which has been held for a long long time -too long, in my opinion. On top of that, women need to be more confident and more assertive. The only way the minority label could be removed is if a huge number of women put pressure on the world to recognise them. I don't think it would be happening anytime soon, because going against social conventions require a rebellious spirit which is determined to change things.

well done dfdfgg it is all about past history and that men wanted to feel supeiorer beacuse they are all so insecure, so they put woment down to asure themselves as the higher leaders in the major historical civilizations, but in all actually women rule the world, just don't tell the boys about it....... we have the children, we control the home, and we can get a guy to do whatever we like just by a flirty look,
if you think about the future, we could get rid of everysingle man in the world, and still survive as a species, for example the cichlid fish which lives in the carrabian does not have a sinle male in its population, and the females give birth to other females.... so technically we could just get rid of all the guys, and still be on this earth, think about it girls...... no more wars, and lots more time and money that could be spent on lipstick, shopping , and generally having a laugh with the girls, ..

They're not being treated like minorities so much as they are being treated like child-bearers, a hand-me-down from older times when child-bearers were likely enough to die during childbirth that they needed to be protected, sheltered, and kept at home for the sake of the family, tribe, or clan. Being sheltered like children meant they were an obvious choice to take care of the children, but it also meant they were ultimately treated like pseudo-children themselves. For a long time, this sort of arrangement worked well enough that survival has tended to favor societies (and thereby, women) that will put up with it.
Times are changing, of course. Men are still likely to die from violence, but women are far more likely to survive childbirth. Childcare options and flexible schedules centered around knowledge-based jobs enable them to get out of the kitchen and into the workplace.
And, having been set loose, women are doing quite well. They're collecting college degrees at a significantly higher rate than men are, for instance. They're proving themselves as entrepreneurs. They're seeking and gaining political offices.
So if you're waiting for a turn-around, a reversal that puts men into the inferior role, just wait a few more years. It looks like it might happen.

Well, sociologically, a minority group does not necessarily refer to numerics. It's usually about other factors such as power, status and education to name a few. Often times, 'subordinate group' is used in place of 'minority group.' I find it to be more appropriate, especially in the case of women.

actually women rule the world
ask any guy why he wants to be the alpha male and be head of the corporation...or the big sports star...
it's to get the best choice of the women...women choose and they make us men compete
so fo course men are going to be very aggressive and protective of their role as the top of the world of work
how many of you women would marry a man of lesser educational and job earnings?
but men are expected to do that all the time
not an excuse for discrimination...just a different perspective

actually its about one-third but anyway, its been since the ancient days. at least here's a biblical perspective: in the bible, after God created man, he created woman player the supporting role, in other words"help", and also for the reason of companionship.
also, it could be that adam and subsequently all males feel a sort of resentment towards women for getting them kicked outta heaven and so therefore its easier to deal with his mistakes by feeling like he has to handle his problems by himself. after years of practicee it has evolved into this point where women are made to feel inferior to men.
thats the best i could come up with, but dont take my word for it i am a guy

The root of it is religion. I'm not saying religion is bad, I'm saying the way people interpret it is skewed. Women are expected to never want sex, yet to have it. To have babies, but that makes them impure because it means they had sex. It's always going to involve sex. It's all double standards, and untill people get over the puritanical values, we will never progress as a society.
