because they want some statistical demographics information to fit on a graph to prove who is more deserving and who isn't. This is a fun way to get the races at each others throats during election time.

I'd honestly only want to date fair skinned people because that's what is attractive to me. I can understand asking your race on a dating website. But asking for your race/nationality/culture or whatever on goverment programs, college applications, scholarships, and anything else is ancient and needs to be reformed. How can we all get along when it is constantly shoved in our faces that we are this this or that? Scholarships should be judged on grades and your ability to pay, not just on the history of your race. :3

I don't know, but I am looking for a job and getting disgusted having to answer that question all the time on job applications. OF COURSE there is always a disclaimer saying it makes no difference in whether your application is considered or not, but I'm scared to not answer the question. I don't see what purpose this question serves.

Well for dating sites is different, like maybe white men only want to date white women or maybe asian men only want to date spanish women. For applications they do it to see the data of who's getting hired.Like if it is a job in a big city that hires all colors but somehow says 100%white, well who ever's hiring is getting fired. The corporate world is just suspicious that's all.

This must be an American thing, because that does not happen in Australia. On some government forms you are asked if you are Aboriginal, but on JOB APPLICATIONS - no. Race is NEVER asked.

Because of laws to try to help minorities, employers have to employ so many of them. That's why they need to know your race and for dating, well some people have a preference of who they date.

Not in my country. At least in any of the jobs I've applied for.
As for dating, some people are racist in their preferences for a mate. If they got matched up with a white person, they'd go ballistic and probably insult them. Or black person, or chinese person, or whatever.
But it's true. Why should we cater to racists?

Because people say it doesn't matter because they think that's what they should be saying. I think it's very important in our society, because of the reasons you mentioned, and it's the first thing people notice about you sometimes.
