Get over it, and get to the gym. Enroll TOMORROW, DO NOT DELAY. No one will laugh at you. When you join the gym, take advantage of their training packages. A trainer will take you through the equipment and show you how to use it. He will also help you design a program to meet your goals.

In the meantime, buy this book TODAY:

As far as the right weight for you, that can vary. I can speak for myself. I'm a white male, 41 years old, 5'8" and 147 lbs. According to statistics, I am on the low side of average for height. The median (50th percentile) for me would be 5'9" or 5'10", so I'm just around the 25th percentile. My weight is about the 20th percentile, so I'm in good shape, at least as far as the weight/age stat is concerned. According to a weight/height statistic, I am considered "medium frame" (although that is dubious, because I have been fluctuating a few pounds, and the charts I have seen define "large frame" as between 144-163 lbs for my height - and I would hardly consider myself "large frame." )

However, I actually think I am small framed -and the recommended weight they give is 129-138 for that - so according to this, I'm overweight, maybe even OBESE!!! According to my own research in investigating the heights and weights of very fit men, my goal is to reach 167 lbs - but most of it will be muscle.

Basically, these charts are based on people who are in average shape for an American male - which is not very good. I may be "overweight" according to their chart, but I am muscular with very low body fat. So you have a LOT of leeway when getting pumped up. It's sad that these stats assume everyone is out of shape...

GOOD NEWS: You have an advantage because you are lean. You can put on muscle quickly, in like 9-12 weeks. Even if guys did "laugh" at you, they wouldn't be laughing anymore after you've pumped up. But anyway, no one will laugh. They are all too worried about how THEY measure up. The only person you are in competition with is YOU.

When you go into the gym, remember that you PAID your membership, and you have as much of a right to be there as anyone else, so don't be intimidated by anyone. When I go to the gym, my attitude is that I OWN the place.

Let us know how it goes.

Love Jack

just go to a reputable gym and hook up with a personal trainer. He/She should get you in the right direction. With dedication and hard work, I think you can gain weight and muscle. As far as workout routines, you can buy workout mags, just a few. They all have good exercises with pix and explanation on how to do the moves. Just believe in yourself, once you start you won't be shy for long....good luck bud.... ;)

Dear, you are totally blessed! I'm on the heavy side and wouldn't be caught dead in a gym. I walk daily for my exercise. Why on earth would you want to gain weight? You are perfect for your height. People starve themselves to get the kind of figure your blessed with!

Let me tell you, the onbly reason they stare at you is that they want you off the equipment.

The thing is you are at a very good weight for your height.

A quality gym will have someone there to guide you through so you don;t hurt yourself

Hate to say it, but just suck it up and get in there. The good thing, though, is once you start to notice some gains, your confidence will be through the roof!

you just need to talk to some trainers, talk to people who go to a gym and ask how they started out what they did,and who they talked to,then you can find out what gym is best for you most gym can offer trail periods and most trainers will help you in what your goals are.
