With the baby being only 7 weeks old I'd consult your doctor, if you re nursing it could just be something that you ate, if you're using formula then there maybe a problem with the formula. I have had friends though that their kids were weekly poopers (the baby would only poop once a week). I always had the "it's better to be safe and ask the doctor, since that's their job, then be sorry." Most doctors offices have a "on-call" doctor that you can call, I also know a few hospitals in my area have a nurse line that you can call and just ask a nurse a concern.

Another thing that may help with the discomfort is to lay the baby on your lap and massage it's tummy, or lay it with skin to skin contact against your tummy the heat may help with the discomfort.

I saw that others said to try juices and stuff, in all honesty with the baby only being 7 weeks, I'd get a doctor's word before trying anything.

fruit is not a good idea at 7 weeks. however, you can start giving apple juice or grape juice. if this doesn't work, try mixing some prune juice with the apple/grape juice.

are you breastfeeding? if you use formula, sometimes the iron is too much and can be constipating. ask your baby's pediatrician.

I just had the same problem with my 4 week old. I called his doc and was told to try diluted apple juice. I diluted 1 oz apple juice with 2 oz water. Also, if you are formula feeding, you may have to switch formula. I went from Enfamil to Carnation Good Start DHA/ARA, but my boy has so much gas that I am going to try Enfamil Gentlease.

My daughter's pediatrician recommended 1 Tbsp. of dark Karo syrup mixed with 4 ounces of water. It worked like a charm for her when she was just a few weeks old. You can give it to them all at once or spread it out over 24 hrs. Only one bottle of this per 24 hrs. though.

Try glycerin suppositories. Insert rectally.
Then check with your doctor. Formula may need to be changed. When my babies were little, the old people said to put Karo syrup in the formula (like 1/2 tsp) for this. But times have really changed so best to ask your doctor who knows best for your baby.

My doctor recommended 1 teaspoon of sugar to 2 oz of water. Or, you can use a half teaspoon of Karo syrup in 2 oz of water as well.

This will help. But it takes a while to kick in.

Put a small amount of Karo syrup in the bottles. Monitor the bowel movments to see if you should put it in all bottles or every other one. I did this with three babies at the advice of three pediatricians and so has every woman in my family. It works great!

do not give the baby anything unless OK by doc. glycine suppositories used to be the thing that was a long time ago. daily water is a good thing for little ones. call your doc. now!!!! maybe the wrong formula.

Half an ounce of water up to 3x a day. Just add it to his bottle. Worked with my son. Its so simple, but effective. Both my pediatrician and my baby nurse told me to do this.
