Why do people think that black people are the only people who tip bad?

Ok I was a waitress for almost a decade, and yes, I know some black people, especially the poor ones don't tip and act like fools sometimes when they go out to eat. With that said, I have been stiffed by pleny of white, asian, and hispanic people. In my experience, asians who are not from the US do not tip very well at all, and neither do the tourist from European countries, and this may be because tipping is not required where they are from. I have also waited on rich white people who were worse than any person from the ghetto could every be. I had one lady lie to my manager by telling him I told her to screw herself! She almost got me fired, and I never said that! Also, some of these rich white people I have waited on would order something, and when I brought it out, they would say they never ordered it, but they ordered something else! Much worse!

And I've had plenty of case where poor white people left me no tip!

you even acknowledge it yourself-yes some whites are lousy tippers-but MOST blacks are-i live near disney and lots of foreign born people come in,and alot are blacks-they tip.
The ones who don't tip are AFRICAN-AMERICAN-it might piss you off that i said it-but if you read every letter in the other thread-you will hear people in my bus.YES EVEN BLACKS-saying it does occur-sorry to get your panties in a knot-but you just wish whites were as awful as you portray

I dont think many waiters think that black people are the ONLY people who tip bad...BUT I have been a waiter, and so has my Sister, and many people we know. We arent racist, BUT, if you work as a waiter, and 6 out of 10 blacks tip bad, and only 3 out of ten whites tip bad, then, whether you want to form the opinion or not, eventualy, you do, to some degree.
Same as all stereotypes. They arent always true, and often they arent true, but, they are true dissproportionately more often then they are true for those who dont share that particular stereotype. Every group has stereotypes, and while they arent usually true with all members of a particular group...they came about through a disproportionate amount of the members of the group posessing particular traits or behaviors compared to other groups.
For the most part...some mean person from a differant group didnt come along and make up stereotypes to spread rumors and cause problems. Some white guy didnt think to himself, "hey, I think I'll start a runor about blacks not tipping well"! This rumor wouldnt have traveled far without some truth to help it along. No... they developed through the reality of the situation. Problems dont arise because some one notices a stereotype in a group... problems arise when people assume that a stereotype is going to be true of all members of a group.
However...waiters will not stop thinking this of black people because of laws, or education classes for equal rights forced on waiters. Rather, waiters will stop thinking this ONLY when the numbers change, and stay changed for an extended period of time. This formula can be used with ALL stereotypes, for all groups, regardless of how politically correct we all might try to be.
Some waiters will take this prejudice too far, and be rude, or give poor service to ALL blacks, right?? But, to think that ALL waiters behave this way, is...guess what? A STEREOTYPE OF WAITERS!!! See! It's easy to fall into the trap, isnt it?

I cannot understand why" that could be said, I have been on both sides of the fence. meaning I have waitressed black people that were so very nice and treated me no different than anyone else. I have had a tip as high as 15.00 from black people because I was kind to them and did my job. I am white and I can say this much some white people didnt treat me as kind. and I have also been a customer and been treated crappy by waitresses, if you ask me I think it matters only in attitude. some people you cant please no matter what their color, and some people are so tight when they walk they squeak. leaving nothing but dishes. thanks for sharing that with us
