When the leaves are falling you should mulch before they get to thick. There shouldn't be so much that you can't see the grass.
If they fall down into the grass it should be okay.
Just go over them a couple of times.

Yes. Mulching with a mower is a faster way for the leaves to rot, and leaves much more room for the air to circulate therefore decaying without choking plants/
Leaves can and do more often than not, ruin grasses. Small leaves are safer leaving on grass than larger ones, which can burn the grasses and choke the roots, especially during hot dry spells. Better to rake than bake.

If you mow often and don't have excess grass to rake it is very good to leave the mulched grass on your lawn. The mulched grass will become mulch and fertilizer for your lawn. Some people feel the need to rake after they mow, but if you can tolerate leaving the grass on your law, I suggest you do.

If you are leaving them on the lawn, it's got to be in avery thin layer, or you'll smother the grass and it will turn brown. Also if you work the mower too hard, you might lose compression in the motor. So it's best to rake them into a compost pit or pile and let them rot. mix some fertilizer in with the leaves and they'll rot a little faster.

Our gardener always rakes up all the leaves and puts them in a wire-sided compost heap - not on the conventional heap. They rot down in about 6 months to form a lovely mulch for the shrubs.
In years gone by we just used to burn them on huge bonfires but that's frowned on now.
Leaving them on the lawn will definitely spoil the grass.

It's not a Bad idea, just make sure you don't leave them on your grass over the winter this will kill your grass and may bring diseases to your grass passed on from the leaves

you can use a mower, after you cut the leaves up fine enough put them in a container large enough to hold them. saw dust wood chips work good too..... save your egg shells through the fall and winter.... crush them up everytime you get them and put them in the mix.(calcium, very good) make sure there is a lid for this..... donot put fertilizer in this.............. its completely organic....... maybe some old vegies(not garbage) then pour coca cola or pepsi or any other soda over it (sounds nasty huh?) the flies will lay eggs on this in spring..... you have to mix this stuff every so often....... @ every 2 weeks..... there will be maggots grow in this stuff... so keep it away from the house....... you will notice this stuff gets hot @140 degrees..... after it cools somewhat @80 degrees.. turn it & mix..... you will have to do this @ 4 times then you will see the bugs all gone..... then its ready.... still NO FERTILIZER. if you use fertilizer you will undo everything this compost is supposed to do.... i knew a man who used this stuff in his garden there wasn't anything he couldn't grow.. he had tomatoes on the vine, planted from seeds, in @ 5 weeks, they were ready to eat in 8 or 9 weeks.....this is also great on flowers, shrubs, trees..... if it grows this will help it along naturally, without chemicals..... i forgot to mention, when this stuff heats up it kills the bugs by devoleping a bacteria (it eats the bugs) then when theres no more bugs to eat the bacteria dies making the mix useful..... try it you'll like it...........
