I love black, and gothic style and vintage clothing. I love horror movies and anything to do with vampires, and Im actually one of the sweetest people you could ever meet and I dont wear it all the time, but I get a lot of negative and some really offensive replys because of my appearance. Why do so many people judge you by your appearance instead of getting to know a person before they decide what kind of person they are? They automatically make assumptions based on what you wear, just because I wear black doesnt mean I personify myself as a suicidal, devil worshipping s*lut! So why does society base your personality by what you wear?

black is what I wear, its not who I am, Im also a mother, a wife and a good friend to many people. I dont have to wear it all the time, I wear it when I feel like it... i am not a stereotype I dont fit into any stereotype... this is directed to the person who said if your gonna wear black wear it all the time and stop worrying about others opinions... I dont worry about others opinion of me but Im not going to place myself into a stereotype either

Mostly Ignorance,That's is according to me is why people judge other people negatively and some people are so closed minded that they don't even try to get them self educated or understanding and some have no conscience(How do you explain serial killers and so on).
there is nothing wrong with wearing clothes you like, watching what you like and so on as long as you dont hurt anybody.
Stay sweet and good you are and dont care about what other do.

I don't believe that judging people by their appearance is right, but I do believe that it is a natural reaction. as an animal, the more brightly colored(or not in some cases) helps them to stay alive.
Humans, sadly are nothing but animals, with the ability to reason. Whats more sad is that people stereotype without even taking the time to investigate to see if the assumption is valid. Some of the nicest people i know are those kids you see with mo-hawks, piercings out the wazoo, and the monochromatic hippies(a.k.a. the goth kids), yea, their scary looking' but no ones gonna mess with them...but back on track, people are ignorant or in a rush or they just don't care.

Because media and society have created that type of thinking. ''you are what you wear'' isn't necessarily true but people are used to thinking stereotypically for eg a prostitute wears fish net stockings and red heels, a girl with rich parents drives a mercedes and in your case a girl who wears black is a suicidal emo. we all judge by appearances because that is what we see first since we cannot see a persons ''heart'' and ''personality'' from the outside.People judge others based on their appearance and assume that their exterior is similar to their interior. not true.

Because unfortunately society is kind of fickle. For the most part I don't think it is intentional, it's an automatic thing, you look at someone, and from past experience you may associate them with someone in your past that they remind you of. Sometimes thats good, sometimes not. I know that personally I have done it (I feel bad) and sometimes I am pleasantly suprised to be proven wrong, because the person ends up being really nice when I wasnt expecting it, and sometimes it has worked the other way around. For me, thats something I am trying to work on, because I know it isn't fair, but it takes time.

Cause the world is not right and there think anything that is just a little wacky or something someone also and they hate is not rate and they got it backwards we are all different and are going to be that way all their lifes. I wear black and people think i am gotic and they also think i am the means person and i would never hurt anyone just because i look different. You just have to learn that you like what you like and live with it. And dont think you need to change for anyone if you want to talk angelamongus09@yahoo.com

Unfortunately, looks are very important in this day and age. People want someone who is sexy or hot but could have the brain of a chimp. You are a perfect example of why people should get to know someone before they go making judgements. Its just that first impression people get. They kind of scan you with their eyes and make their assessment based on clothes and hair. But I agree, personality (which is something you seem to have) is definitely more important then looks.

It is because of how people are programed by society. We are all programed in different ways. It is very difficult to see without blinders and prejudices. Let the negative be like water off a ducks back. Be happy as best you can. Do what you can. Believe in yourself and each other. Do not be troubled by the closed minded people it is not worthy of your time.

Unfortunetly People are narrow minded and will do just that. This all relates to their upbringing. Kids learn from their parents so if their parents are biggots or are too quick to judge people before actually getting to know the person for whom he/she is versus the look, their kids will learn the same.

Until parents as teachers for their kids start teaching to not be too quick to judge a person by their appereance it will not change.

How else are you going to make a quick evaluation of someone. If you live in a crowded city for instance the ability to "size people up" immediately, also know as "street smarts" can mean the difference in being a victim or not.

We judge people first by sight. If you are out of the ordinary we tend to judge harsher. We tend to think that these people only dress or do things to their bodies to get some extra attention or it's the shock value. The way you dress is part of your personality.
