There's usually more than one. They hate the light so just leave some lights on and hopefully they'll move on...

You do live in an area where bugs, and especially cockroaches are prevalent. The south (compared to Ohio, you are south) is notorious for cockroaches. And even in Ohio they are prevalent. Having a clean home in a nice neighborhood doesn't mean diddly to a cockroach....they go where ever they want. Most people have had them in their homes at least once in their lives. That doesn't mean that they aren't disgusting and need to be dealt with right away. They can come home with you by hitching a ride from the grocery store, a stay in a hotel, from a visitor who brought an uninvited guest with them (the roach). It has been said that when the world is extinct with all other living things, the cockroach will still live on. Nasty little buggers that are very difficult to get rid of. Good luck, and I really mean that. You have my sympathies.

Roaches only have to breed once in a life time. One should be counted as 1,000. Don't take a chance, either go to a store and purchase Roach Motel Bait, or call an exterminator. It is cheaper to take action now, than to deal with 1,000 times 1,000. The exterminators will sell what you need. So buy now, and you won't be leaving your house for hours while the exterminators spray the entire unit. Good Luck

cockroaches get in through the drains and cracks. Good idea to put the plug in the sinks at night. And if there is one there will be millions. It doesn't matter if you live in a nice neighbourhood, they all have them, they are not really associated with dirt and disease, although you will find them in the sewers. Don't leave any food lying around, even crumbs. You may not get any more, or you may get a plague. Try not to use chemicals on them as they become immune.

You can buy roach traps at a hardware store. If you saw one, there are many more. The building should have an exterminator on call. Ask for his services in your apt. If one person in the building has roaches, everyone will have them. They can live in the walls.

Boric acid , it is very effective when used properly for killing
cockroaches and most other insects.
You can also get a house lizard, they are natural enemies and will eat them. More information at http://tinyurl.com/ofxkk

The weather just turned colder they want in out of the cold. They have wings. they could fly in through an open window or open door. I am sure your building has been sprayed and these few that make it in will soon die.
