Pretty sure it's not the altinator. I just had that replaced & when it does start I hold the power. When the altinator was bad, I couldn't hold any power. Couldn't use the blinkers or anything. I'm not havin that particular issue this time. But once it does start & then I turn it off, I won't start the next time. I think either battery or starter but him & another guy seem to think solenoid switch. I don't want to waste money.

It could be the battery connection or the battery it's self. There's normally not enough voltage to complete the starting process that makes the clicking noise. Try cleaning up the connection surfaces. This means the battery's negative and positive posts along with the battery cable ends. If that doesn't work try getting your battery load tested at a auto center to see if your battery is still able to be used. Good luck!

Hello,
first of all what kind of car model and year.
most cars; The first thing you do is check the battery cables and terminals, check the battery fluid levels in the battery, clean both battery terminal ends on the battery and the cables. Then try and start it,if it just clicks then most of the time its the battery.Check the alt.belt and make sure its tight.99% of the time its not the alt.
so I would check both cables and make sure there isn't any blue ish or green ish build up on the cables. If after you jump it and it starts take it to your mechanic and have him test the battery.Or you can take the battery to like Karen's or pep boys and they will test the battery for you.

Clean and tighten your battery terminals 1st. Make sure you have good contacts and good ground connections. If this doesnt work, go to a local AutoZone, there they check the electrical system for free and will install a new battery for free as well.
If you get no clicking at the solenoid, try tapping the starter with a small hammer, it may bind once in a while.
good luck

I would say bad battery. I had a van that would make clicking sounds when trying to start when the battery died. Most auto places will test the battery for free.

OH! don't get it into your eyes. additionally, with a knife scratch off the interior the terminal to disclose extra steel. additionally scratch off merely somewhat the terminal. nonetheless there's a gadget made purely for this purpose which feels like a brillo pad with a knob. anyhow, reconnect the terminals and attempt beginning the vehicle back. If it incredibly is fairly not the case the battery is discharged meaning it may be undesirable. take to the vehicle area save and have them try it. If it does meassure 12V and above then there is not any longer a solid connection in considered one of the two wires related to the battery. to be certain this flow away on of the probes of the meter and stick to the twine on the different pole. for example battery pole to battery pole meassures 12V then battery is solid.yet whilst meter adverse (black twine) on battery and meter useful (pink twine) would not degree 12V then there's a foul connection. one extra element, If after fixing the priority the battery dies it can be a foul alternator yet it fairly is that in case you spot that your battery gets drained after use. in short, attempt those steps sequencially and after each attempt startint the vehicle earlier shifting to the subsequent step. a million) first sparkling the terminals and attempt back. 2) verify if there are no longer the different situation with the relationship from the battery to the wires. 3) take the battery to a save and have them try it.

It COULD be as simple as corroded posts on the battery. Clean them first. If the problem continues, check to see if the alternator is charging, just look at the volt meter if your car has one. if it is, the battery is probably shot.

If not either of those, it is probably your starter. I had the same thing going on once and then eventually, there was nothing. I would get some money together and get it checked out.
