I think you are right! 13 has always been a bad luck number mainly the origin is from the bible. But I believe the first reason it is unlucky was due to the fact that Judas was the thirteenth apostle of Christ. Since he was the one who betrayed him, 13 is considered an unlucky number to have.
How Friday the 13th became unlucky I don't know. But your assessment seems to be a logical one. Thirteen is not unlucky in Japan. Their main religions being Buddhism and Shintoism. They believe 4 and 9 are unlucky. 4 is shi in Japanese which means death and 9 is Ku which means to suffer. You will never find a room number 4 or 9 in a hospital in Japan but you can always find 13. Also in Hotels as well.

Actually it all started with the Knights Templar, a group of extremely rich and powerful men who ran the banking system of Europe after the Crusades. Other powerful people, especially in the Church, became fearful of them and took steps to cripple thier organization. On a Friday, the 13th day of April, the Knights main stronghold was invaded and all the inhabitants killed. The common folk believed that the Knights had gained so much power and wealth with supernatual powers and if something so unlucky could happen to them then it could happen to anybody. Yes, the number 13 was already considered unlucky so, folks thought it must be the day, Friday the 13th, that caused the bad luck.

Many ascribe it to the termination, with extreme prejudice, of the Templars.
There are many unlucky 13's. It should be noted that 13 Adar is not too far from 13 Norouz, an unlucky day in the Persian calendar.

The Knights Templar story is indeed the earliest known friday the thirteenth story. Oct 13,1307 hundreds of Knights Templar were rounded up,they were then tortured into confessing to heresy, and once convicted on their own induced confessions they were summarily executed. Most likely due to fear of their growing power, but some would also suggest because they had information which could be dangerous to very powerful people, and some have indeed suggested because they knew of the location of the Holy Grail.

Actually I believe it began on Friday October 13, 1307. This is the day King Philip of France arrested the Grand Master of the Order of Knights Templar and about 1,000 of the knights in Paris. Simultaneously knights were arrested throughout France. Most were tortured to death. This act effectively ended the political and financial strength of the Order. Most of their wealth was never recovered. Their treasures were from plundering Jerusalem during the Crusades. It is even rumored they possessed the Holy Grail.

13 was a revered number from religions prior to Christianity in which the feminine was sacred (13 cycles per year). Friday was a preferred wedding day in those same religions. Both were disapproved of by the early church to emphasize the evil nature of non-Christian religions.
The Templar incident adds fuel to the fire because it happened to be a Friday the 13th, or so the story goes.

Because they choose to 'forget' that Jesus [Yeshua] was, is & always will be Jewish. It was a shabbaton which was on a "thursday". The first day [ starting at sunset of saturday] of the Christian week is sunday, Strangely enough I believe that the 'Christian' days & months are named after the roman gods. Lev 23- see the 'nissan 14' requirements & see that Yeshua is the Firstfruits, followed by Passover. The Jewish & Muslim calenders are both lunar = based on the phases of the moon. You are on the right track, just have a few of the details confused.
