At my bank, if you don't have an account, you can cash a check using a government form of ID, and another form of ID such as a social security card, AAA card, or other card with your name on it. The local check cashing store just asks for ID. It just depends on where you go.

If you don't want to get a driver's license, go to the same office and apply for a State ID card. Cost is $0 to $15, depending on the State.

Not sure what they are called or where you get one, but folks who don't drive can get picture ID. Call the DMV in your city. They may be able to help you. Having picture ID is a good idea anyway.
