So - let me get this straight. The mantra of the Republicans has been about preserving our "liberty & freedom" and ensuring "liberty & freedom" to other countries. So, sneakily attached to a bill about port security - a necessarily bill - one which supposedly is a tool in our quest to preserve "liberty & freedom", is a bill that now outlaws people playing online poker in the privacy of their own homes. What this has to do with port security - I have no idea. What I do know is that in a bill that supposedly helps with liberty & freedom is a law which STRIPS liberty & freedom. I am not a child, I'm an adult who is very capable of making adult choices. But now, because of our wonderful Republican Congress, I am no longer permitted to make such a choice. Hypocritical? I think so. Do YOU think so? Is Congress so controlled by the far-right Christian Conservatives that even freedom & liberty of its own citizens can be put on the back burner?

but - of course - horse racing & interstate lotteries are still perfectly legal - yeah - that makes sense.

Hey Fr. Chuck - I don't deny that many adults can't handle gambling. Many adults can't handle alcohol, either. However, just because SOME adult can't handle a certain activity doesn't translate to government intervention. Rather than try to prevent people from gambling through persuasion and argument, the government, instead, avoided this method entirely & abused its own power by making it a criminal offense! There are 2 sides to liberty & freedom - it means that we have the freedom to sometimes make unhealthy decisions. But, it should be OUR right to make those decisions - the infringement of government in this situation is clearly taking a pee on liberty & freedom.

Willis: I'm sorry, you lose. The jackass is yourself. The problem with your buddy's answer is that it didn't address my question - which is about a REPUBLICAN congress who blatantly passed a law limiting freedom & liberty. My question didn't involve Democrats & their own scummy methods at times. You can't acknowledge that your beloved Republicans are ever wrong - so you swiftly deflect the blame & point out what the other side does. On that note - only one of the 2 parties seems to constantly try to pass law that infringes on liberty & freedom (anti-gambling, anti-woman's choice, anti-gay rights, etc.) - and it seems to be coming from the party that screams about liberty & freedom the loudest.

Yes, you have it totally correct.

BTW: I believe that using telecommunications lines to place a wager or take wagers is still illegal in the USA. All the online casinos are outside the USA.

Its just a con to enslave you further. What liberty and freedom. Do you notice that each time your rights are being limited further the government and the press keep banging on about freedom and liberty. Its not that the left hate freedom and liberty, its because some people are better than others at seeing through the propaganda and brainwash. What did you do before ID cards, Biometric passports, Banning handguns(UK) and such other measures? The criminals seem to prosper further but your freedom and liberty is further limited. Enjoy.

Amen. I couldn't have said that any better. Thumbs up to your thorough question.
I liked online poker myself. That's why I'm here right now. Generally b****ing about what's wrong with our current Republican administration.
Hypocritical of every new law that strips our freedom and liberty. Look for them to shut this site down too. Repressing freedom of speech.
And many call us the unpatriotic ones.

It does not belong in the bill. But that's the way Congress does its crap, wait for a bill that must pass and throw all kinds of crap into it for themselves. This is Pork Politics!

Unrelated riders should be banned along with online gambling.

Sorry jackass, thumbs up to Mark D. His point is a valid counterpoint to yours.

Are you correct? In some sense. It does not belong in that bill. Do both parties pull that crap all the time? Yes.

So it's really not a party issue but one of politicians in general. We the voters need to hold them more accountable, and 2 choices don't seem like enough.

If you're an adult capable of making your own choices then you don't need a minimum wage law, either. Who created minimum wage laws -- Democrats or Republicans?

For the record, I'm not a Republican -- any more.

But I hate the hypocrisy of Democrats who think they always stand up for "liberty and freedom."

Of course you do realise that all major bills have many small laws attached to them. This is the normal commom way of doing business, It is often done to work deals with fringe groups to get your major bills passed.

But gambling is a major problem that causes 1000's to lose thier home, get divorced and more every year.

And of course many laws are passed with no method of control or inforcement also.

It's EXACTLY the kind of decient that is rampant in the Retardlican party. WHAT EVER THEY TELL YOU, you can be ASSURED they are doing the complete opposite. They rant on and on about freedom and liberty and everyday they do something to limit your freedom and your liberty. SAY ONE THING, DO ANOTHER.
