Can you tell me which is a better investment. Purchasing a nice 40 foot RV, which could be rented out for weekend trips or buying a summer home and renting it out. Can you give the pros and cons on both. Thank you very much!

Summer Home. It all comes down to depreciation. Your motor home will depreciate and fast especially if you are renting it out to people. Your summer home will gain value.

I would think that in general a vacation home is an appreciating asset while an RV would be a depreciating asset. From a pure investment prospective a summer home is better, and will last a lifetime.

I'd go with the summer home... a motor home will depreciate over time, whereas the summer home will appreciate in value. If it's purely an investment decision, there is no doubt that real estate beats personal property.

I'd go with real estate every time. As the saying goes, they aren't making any more of it. An RV could be fun and the price could be lower. But the value of an RV would also depreciate rapidly, after you drive it off the lot. Unless you are overpaying for the real estate, it should rise in price over the years. Choose carefully on either and do your research.

a look at the big picture would tell me to go for the summer home. the rv is going to be antiqued in a few years and no one is going to want to rent it. would you trade it in for the new model and keep the business going? the summer home will appreciate (hopefully) and be worth more. the resale value will increase where as the motor home will be worthless.

In my own opinion A summer home would be better. Once your there no more traffic to fight or detours to worry about. Just settle in and enjoy yourself and learn about whata around you. I think it's better to be settled in somewhere. The road can be very trying on the nerves. Enjoy

I would say motor home, because if you buy a summer home, you'll still have to pay for gas to get there.
