I plan on taking japanese language classes next year in college and i was wondering how they are taught in college. Are they like high school where the teacher is very interactive with students and speaking? Or are they more independent? I appreciate any answers

It really depends on the college, the professor, and what level you are taking. I have taken some foreign language courses that are extremely interactive and others that just involve the teacher giving you worksheets. There are also independent courses you can take, but those are usually upper level courses in your jr and sr year.

It depends a lot on the teacher and the institution. If you are going to a community college, chances are that you will get a Japanese teacher who is a language-teaching professional, and really knows the best type of methodology to use with students. If you are going to a university, you might get a TA who is still an inexperienced language teacher.

I'm pleased that your high-school Japanese teacher is interactive. That gives me hope, because many high-school language teachers aren't.

TOTALLY depends on the school. If you're going to a large school chances are you won't get much interaction with the prof, however tutorials are helpful because you can interact with other people in the class and the teaching assistants. I took a spanish course that wasn't even taught by a prof...a grad student taught the course, which was pretty interactive but very fast paced.

It depends. If you know the language it will be to easy for u. I took Russian in University with an awesome professor, in Intermediate Russian we were already reading novels, regarding writing in cyrilic not so much. My sister is international trade major and she has to take 2 languages and she is pretty god in Russian after spending couple of years in Brooklyn with our relatives so she had the option to take a verbal exam and they gave her an exempt from Russian. Also u can get in an upper class if u prove knowledge of the language
