My dear grandparents were married in England in1941. My grandfather was Church of England from Liverpool & my grandmother was a Catholic from Kent. That bothered their parents. Is it still like that there? Is there still a Church of England? I hope the little difference in religion is not a big deal anymore.

yes the church of england still exists, the queen is the current head of the church (defender of the faith) though this is a title only now, the church of england came about in the reformation bought about by henry the eigth wanting to divorce his wife, the catholic church in rome wouldn't allow this so henry broke away from them, and so came the dissolution of the monasteries, these were the catholic power bases in this country, many priests were hounded tortured and killed during this time, however eventually the catholic church eventually became acceptable again, with the church of england being a separate entity, as are the churches of scotland and ireland. however the only place now where there is bad feeling because of secualr dispute is northern Ireland, where the minority of the population are protestant loyalists, while the catholic majority, want to secede from the UK, however this is yet to happen, if it ever will, as you know it has been subject to almost open warfare for hundreds of years, but as i say on the mainland catholics and protestants work and live happily side by side.

Well I'm from Scotland and I'm sorry to say that we still have problems with religion up here. My Catholic friend was going out with her prodestant bf and his family really didn't like the fact she was Catholic. You mainly see this discrimination in areas of Glasgow nowadays.

p.s, yes there is still a Church of England lol.

Yes there is a church of england. But they are not as stringent about inter religious marriages. As for catholics it can depend on the community they live in. If raised in a tight knit catholic community then it can be frowned upon but others are more forgiving and understanding.

I think the idea of someone from Kent marrying someone from Liverpool is shocking
how would they ever understand each other
the culture and accent
the aspirations and life expereicen are completely different
and how on earth did your grandmother find a protestant in Liverpool?
that really is something

Yes but a different type, I mean there are still nobheads who hurl abuse at Muslims, etc. But people just won't learn I guess. When it comes to Christianity though no-one really gives a toss nowadays.
