HOW TO PREVENT AND REMOVE BLACKHEADS?
Looking for ways to get rid of or remove blackheads and prevent them from recurring.

The bad news is, blackheads are hard to prevent as the skin is constantly producing sebum and renewing itself. The collection of oil and dead skin cells builds up quickly in the pores.

A consistent skin care routine can help keep them under control. Do not pick at or try to squeeze the blackheads with your fingers. The risk of doing so is infection and scarring.

Here are some tips and methods that will help to keep them under control and remove them in a timely manner. Each of them has its benefits and its drawbacks.

√ KEEP YOUR SKIN CLEAN

Develop a good facial and body skin care routine. Exercise discipline to wash the dirt, grime, oil and cosmetics away from the face and skin. Facial cleansers with salicylic acid will help to remove debris and surface oil that clogs pores.

Looking for a good facial cleanser? SkinStore, Inc offers a number of carefully selected facial cleansers. There are some which are specially formulated for acne prone skin. Click here use the search box to help you search for what you need. Type in “facial cleanser with salicylic acid” in the search box if you are looking for one that will help you with your acne problems.

√ EXFOLIATE YOUR SKIN

Use an exfoliator once a week. Skin care products with Alpha-Hydroxy acids or AHAs are a good choice. Do it gently.

ZENMED™ Exfoliation Complex is very effective for removing dead skin cells and unblocking clogged pores. It is excellent for even the most stubborn blackheads.

SkinStore, Inc offers a number of good exfoliators with AHA. Click here and type in “exfoliator with AHA” in the search box to help to look for what you need.

√ FACIALS

Go to a beauty salon or do it at home. Pamper yourself with a facial once a month.

√ PORE STRIPS

Benefits

Help to dislodge debris from pores
Drawbacks
Do not prevent the formation of blackheads
Sensitive skins may be irritated by the adhesive when the strip is pulled off

√ TOPICAL RETINOIDS

Topical retinoids such as Retin-A help to remove and prevent the formation of blackheads. However, these are prescription acne medicines and you will need to see a doctor for it.

Benefits
Loosen plug
Unclogged pores
Speed up cell renewal
Reduces oil production
Drawbacks
Slow reacting as results are not visible until a few weeks later.
The medication can cause the skin to be dry and even flaky.

√ CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels can also help to remove blackheads.

Benefits
Removes dead skin cells and some debris from the pores quickly and effectively
Quick acting as results are visible after the second peel.
Drawbacks
Not recommended if you are using a retinoid because they may irritate your skin.
A regimen of skin care products with salicylic acid and chemical peels with glycolic acid have been found to be beneficial. 5 to 6 peels are usually recommended.

SkinStore, Inc offers a number of different types of peels that you could use. Click here and type in “peels” in the search box to help to look for what you need.

√ METALLIC EXTRACTOR

A metallic instrument that has a small and round opening at the end, the extractor can be used to remove each blackhead individually.

This is by far the most effective method but must be done properly to prevent scarring. The skin is not squeezed by any means and all the contents of the clogged pore are extracted as the tool exerts pressure around the pore to make the contents pop out.

Keep the tool parallel (not perpendicular) to the skin and press around the blackhead with the smaller circular head. Do not drag the tool across the skin as it can cause skin ripping and permanent damage.
