Playing 1 on 1, I can usually outdribble most of my competition, but when it comes to the game and I dribble into traffic, I have the tendency to travel, carry, lose control of the ball, or miss my shots 90% of the time.

Take a fast, big first step. Try and get on the side or maybe even past your main defender in that step. Then lean forward a bit, keep the ball low, and when you get to the rim and jump, jump high and don't be afraid of contact. If they foul you, you get two shots anyway.
