In baseball, proper management goes a long way in determining a team's success of failure. What is management but making the best use of the available resources (players). A bad manager can destroy a team full of all-stars. La Russa wears glasses to show his "Poker face", a face full of calmness, that shows the players "He's out there looking at every move I make,".
Joe Torre does the same. If you see Torre, he won't have a smile nor a frown no matter how well or horrible the Yankees are doing. Great managers know baseball is full of ups and downs, and La Russa along with Torre, Cox, and Pinella are amongst the best.
