This is a complicated question and patriotism must first be defined.
What is a being Patriotic?
1. Is it supporting your government no matter what they do? Under that definition, I guess the Nazi troops were very patriotic to Hilter's Germany.
2. Is it supporting and believing in the constitution that is the basis of our great nation?
3. Is it loving your country so much that you would die for her?
4. Is it loving your country so much that you would fight to keep her safe to include fighting your own government trying to change her?
Taking all of those factors into account, I would have to say Democrats overall are more Patriotic.
For example, let's look at me:
- I was in the IRR when Saddam invaded Kuwait and volunteered to go active for that war therefore, I would fight for the values of my country.
- Would I go active for this war? No. This war is against everything we stand for. This war is destroying our values, causing record breaking internal division and every single Iraqi that we have killed has made us murderers.
- I am a liberal because I am a constitutionalist. I believe in the constitutional rights and liberties to all. That is why I support the Supreme Court's decisions on things like legalizing abortion based on the 1st Amd., not allowing prayer in public schools based on the 4th Amd, and the right to bear arms based on the 2nd and 9th Amd.s
You see, Republicans seem to enjoy constitutional civil liberties and claim to love America but then turn around and protest constitutional rights they don't like.
As a true patriotic, you don't get to pick and choose portions of the constitution that you want to live by or not.
Here are some quotes that another answerer gave me a few weeks ago that make the case even more:
"It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from the government.
- Thomas Paine
"A President is impeachable if he attempts to subvert the Constitution".
-- President James Madison
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither."
- Ben Franklin
"If ever time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin."
- Samuel Adams
"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it."
- President Abraham Lincoln
"In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce and brave man, hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."
- 'Mark Twain'
"Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the President."
- President Theodore Roosevelt

Democrats. There is nothing patriotic about subverting the US constitution every opportunity you get, expanding authority beyond the constitutional limits in the guise of war, implementing policies to create a "class" society, throwing our own poor people under the bus (or flood, as the case may be), bankrupting the country by funneling public money into their own wallets, bankrupting our ability to pay for social services simply because they don't believe in them, working against the working class of America in every possible labor situation, not representing the ideals of the very constituents that voted for the Republicans, and encouraging and performing a wide multitude of acts that go against the very fabric and spirit of what is "American", from spying on its own citizens to torture to trying to paint anyone who critizes our very corrupt government as "anti-American".
If being patriotic means destroying the very country and ideals of the country that you are in control of, then the Republicans are incredible patriots.

Democrats are more patriotic because it is actually the highest form of patriotism to work for the defeat of your own country and give aid and comfort to enemies who plot your destruction. That's called "dissent."
