Most Old Kingdom pyramids were constructed of limestone quarried at the local pyramid sites with casing stones of finer limestone from the quarries at Tura.
Later royal pyramids were often constructed with a mudbrick or rubble (loose, uncut stones) core and cased with limestone.
Interior chambers and occasionally the lowest courses of the exterior of the pyramid were sometimes constructed of other types of stone, such a granite.
