My friend had back surgery and was on morphine for the pain. She had her back fused and they used a part of her hip to fuse it with. The doctor took her off the morphine when she began itching but its been a few weeks now and she is still itching. Any clue what is causing this?

There are two things I can think of. 1st, it could just be her flesh healing from the surgery. Many people do not realize how bad things can itch when they heal, especially skin and muscle.

2nd, it could b a weird side affect of morphine withdrawal.

If she is concerned, she should speak to her doctor.

Often Morphine can cause a systemic reaction in which the person itches all over. It's just going to take some time. No worries.

Itching? Where?
Whole body? Could be morphine withdrawl symptoms.

At/adjacent operation site? Could be tissue repair associated symptoms/poor "knitting" of tissues, nerve irritations or foreign body/low grade infection symptoms.

Elsewhere? Who knows? Maybe an allergic reaction to a morphine substitute medication?

Psychosomatic post-operative psychological stress??

A too broad question with many options: if the situation is distressing/debilitating keep consulting your medic/s until you are satisfied.
