its a 1995 pontiac transport van SE and we have to warm it up for like 20 minutes or so b4 it will go into geaar, its automatic and after it is warmed up it seems to run fine?, is there something simple we can do to fix this without replacing the transmission, we already changed the transmission filter and fluid and that seemed to help with the shifting whenit is going down the road.

does any1 know if the heater core plug thing would have anything to do with the transmission? i am asking because i had the heater core plug, plugged in for about 3 1/2 hours this evening, then started the van up and let it idle for a few seconds and then put it in reverse and tapped the gas and it went, but before i had to let the engine warm up for like 20 minutes?

Are you sure you filled the transmission up with enough fluid when you did the fluid and filter change?

Your Transport is equipped with a 4T60E transmission if it has a 3.8 motor. What it sounds like is wrong with your transmission is that the pump is bad. Having to let it warm up before it will go is the most common symptom. So called Transmission fixes in a bottle will only help for a little while, and will end up doing more damage to your transmission because it will swell the seals and o rings inside. There is no quick fix for your problem. You can either live with it the way it is or you will need to either have your transmission overhauled or replaced.

i have a olsmobile 98 with the same transmission and the same problem more than likely the oil pump in the trans is getting tired but i too have drained the oil put a new filter. but ther was not much improvment untill i added some lucas transmission fix. now the car only acts up once in a blue moon. it may or may not help but for around 10 bucks it's worth a shot. hope this helps.

When's the last time you had a tune-up? How many miles are on it? Do you get regular scheduled maintenance? All I can tell you is, I have a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire, and it's fine until cold weather comes, and then, yes, I need to warm it up 15-20 minutes or it bucks like a bronco. Mine has always been that way, regardless of age or mileage.

Recheck the level of your trans fluid when you are on level ground with the engine running and in park. the trans must be hot when doing this, so drive the car for about 15 minutes. Add what is needed. If this is not the problem, then you may have a bad troque converter/ trans.
good luck...............

YOU COULD POUR A CAN OF MARVEL MYSTERY OIL IN IT AND THAT WORKS SOME TIMES. I HAD A J2000 AND IT WOULD NOT SHIFT SO I PUT THAT OIL IN THE TRANSMISSION AND IT WOULD WORK FOR A WHILE. YOU CAN BUY THE OIL AT THE AUTO PARTS STORE OR WALMART

make sure fluid is at full..not above.....sounds like trans is getting ready to die......lucas oil makes a good additive ...lucas transmission additive.....but you have to drain out some so it wont be overfull.........
