That we are not kind or tolerant of those among us who are different. Remember, the creature was abandoned by his creator and never had the benefit of proper parenting. He learned to his dismay that people looked in horror at him, and he responded with emotion and vengeance. He was different and unaccepted by his creator and society.

To me it seems like he is teaching us that being different is not easy and there are some not very nice people out there who deal with difference.
