First multiply through and remove the ( ).

3(x+6) becomes 3x + 18 and 5(x-4) becomes 5x - 20

The equation now is:
3x + 18 = 5x - 20

Now move the like terms to the same side of the = sign by doing the opposite math process:

3x - 3x + 18 = 5x - 3x - 20

The equation is now:
18 = 2x -20 so move the 20 by doing the opposite

18 + 20 = 2x - 20 + 20

Now the equation is
38 = 2x

Next get rid of the 2 by dividing both sides by 2

19 = x

TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, YOU NEED TO FIND THE VALUE OF X. If you read this far, it means you want to learn. In order to find x, you must isolate it. To isolate it, carry out the Order of Equations.
3(x+6)=5(x-4)
3x+18=5x-20
3x+18 -3x=5x -20-3x
Then you simplify it so that the Constants (18, -20 basically all Numbers).
18 +20=2x -20 +20
Now you have:
38=2x
If you don't understand what happened above, this is the explanation: The law of Equality makes it so that in order to move a number to the other side, you have to get rid of it on its orginal side. e.g. x-10=20. To isolate x and get -10 to the other side, you add it so it cancels out the left side and then also add 10 to the right side. Since you are adding the same number to both sides, it is still eqal. so, x-10=20 goes to x=30.

You still have 38=2x, but this isn't enough. Remember, you have to get x by itself. So by the Law of Equality, divide 2 from the 2x and divide 2 on the 38 side:
2x/2=38/2
38/2=19
x=19

3x+18=5x-20.. Use the distributive property. Times x and 6 by 3, then x and 4 by 5.

You multiply the number outside the parentheses by each individual variable within them.
So...
3(x+6)=5(x-4) becomes 3x+18=5x-20

Now you add the 20 to both sides, resulting in...
3x+38=5x

Now you more the x's to the same side
so either 38=2x

Now divide both sides by 2 and you get...
19=x

Plug 19 back in to the original equation to check your answer!

3(x+6)=5(x-4)
3x+3*6=5x-5*4
3x+18=5x-20
3x+18-18=5x-20-18
3x=5x-38
3x-5x=5x-5x-38
-2x=-38
2x=38
2x/2=38/2
x=19

First, simplify the left side of the equation. 3(x+6) is the same as 3*x+3*18. So 3(x+6) is equal to 3x+18. The same principal applies to the left side (5*x-5*4, 5x-20). Now you have the equation 3x+18=5x-20. Subtract 18 from both sides to get 3x=5x-38. Then, subtract 5x from each side to get -2x=-38, or 2x=38. Moving the variable to one side and the known numbers to the other side is known as isolating the variable. Finally, divide each side by two to get x=19.

Answer:
19

Hope this helps!

multiply 3 and x 3x
multiply 3 and 6 18
do the other side 3x+18=
multiply 5 and x 5x
multiply 5 and -4 -20
simplify:
3x+18=5x-20
bring the 3x to the other side, so you subtract
3x(-3x)+18=5x(-3x)-20
so you get
18=2x-20
so you then take the 20 and bring it over to the other side
and do the opposite opperation:
18(+20)=2x-20(+20) and because -20+20= 0, you cross it out and get
38=2x
so you divide 2x into 38
and you get
x= 19

First distribute the 3 (3x+18). then the 5 (5x-20) Then solve for x 3x+18=5x-20
+20 +20
3x+38=5x
-3x -3x
38=2x
/2 /2
19=x

You multiply the numbers outside the parentheses by both terms inside to get
3x + 18 = 5x - 20

Then you subtract 3x from both sides to get 18 = 2x - 20

Then you add 20 to both sides to get 38 = 2x

Finally you divide both sides by 2 to get 19 = x

Then you check: 3(25) = 5(15)

75=75 check

1. distribute first(parenthesis)
3(x)+3(6)=5(x)-5(4)
3x+18=5x-20
2. get the variable and coefficient of the variable on one side all alone(# next to variable(x) is the coefficient)
3x+18=5x-20
+20 +20
3x+38=5x
-3x -3x
38=2x
3.solve for x
38/2=2x/2 (divide 2 on each side to cancel coefficient)
19=x

Hope I helped =)

3*x + 3*6 = 5*x - 5*4

3x+18= 5x-20

then gather like terms together, so the signs will change

3x-5x= -20-18
-2x=-38

now divide both sides by -2

so -2 on the x side will cut by -2 -2 and x will remain

x= -38
------
-2
now -, - will cut

so x= 38/ 2

x= 19
