Do you also have a problem of suspecting many English accents you hear are fake (more of a problem for those of us not experienced with variances in that accent)? Hell, I even started to doubt that the voice behind the Geico Gecko was that of an Englishman's, which it actually is.

Some people think this accent provides them with an air of civility and/or intelligence, which is usually removed the moment they open their mouths, regardless of an accent affectation.

I can always tell when someone's faking an English accent. It's the most beautiful accent I've ever heard so I wouldn't mind it if everyone imitated it. Even Madonna tries to fake it but she just sounds ridiculous. Now the Gecko did throw me for a moment because I thought it was an Australian at first.

What truly chaps my @ss is the prevalence of "Aussie" accents on the television commercials...

It seems to get work on an info-mercial, you MUST have the thickest OZ accent possible... I guess they study by watching "Crocodile Dundee" or the late Steve Irwin
