Our laptop computer usually is able to go about three hours on battery before we have to plug it back in, and then it charges back up. But the last time we left it unplugged and then plugged it back in, the battery never did charge. It's been three days and it still says the battery is at 0%. If a battery is rechargeable I thought it didn't "die." Or am I wrong? Please no rude answers--I'm asking because I don't know.

If I were you, I would unplug that battery from the computer completely. Reinsert battery and change outlets for the cord. Leave it plugged in for a few hours, unplug the power source and try to reboot with battery only. Sounds silly, but sometimes machines are just "stuck" and need a change of scenery. You might have a connection from the computer to the battery that isn't connecting, which could have nothing to do with the battery but the computer.

Sometimes the battery may have died so it is not keeping the charge. If the battery is fairly new, shud take the charge and while using the abttery over some time u shud notice when the battery life is shortning.

Also the compartment which house the battery, the connectors may be slack or defective. The battery itself may be slack. Take it out and put it back in and see. If nothing, backup yur important stuff on a cd or USB Stick/Pen drive and carry it to a computer technician. Backup yur files in case of somethin worse happens since is electricity u dealing with. Laterz.

Yes, you are wrong, all batteries die out eventually, some sooner than others, and yes, even rechargeable ones. Laptop batteries are typically warrantied for only a year, they simply don't last that long. If you are lucky though, your battery may be covered under the Sony recall, contact the manufacturer

The power block could have gone bad. I'm not asking a stupid question here but are you sure the outlet you plugged the laptop into was working? Its not on a switch that was turned off or are you sure the outlet works by plugging in a lamp or something?

If the outlet works you should have a light on the power block that indicates its plugged in. Do you have that light?

If all of this checks out laptop batteries do go bad and the power blocks can go bad as well.

Is the battery really uncharged, or is it just a case of the indicator saying that it is? First, if you haven't done so already, see if it works on battery power. If it doesn't, shut down the computer, remove the battery, then put it back in and hook up the power and try again to recharge it.

Be sure the outlet you plugged into is active.

? Maybe the outlet is on a switch, meant for a floor lamp.
Check the outlet.

One other thing your can do, is to turn on the laptop while plugged in on the charger. If it keeps working, the outlet and charger are probably good. If not, your charger or outlet is not working properly.
You can get cheap replacements on ebay.

Batterys are $$$expensive

How old is it, Lithium batterys last for many years with light use.

Yes sadly enough, batteries die. If it is an older battery I would just buy another one. But if it is fairly new take the battery back to where you bought it and try to get a replacement.

Above is good advice. But also, you don't mention if the laptop works on battery power even if the meter says 0...that would be a clue.

This could just be a charge meter issue and the battery is actually charged. Try rebooting the system, reseating the battery, and recalibrating the battery meter.

Batteries can get to the point where they simply wll no longer hold a charge. I would remove the battery, reinsall it and try again. You may need to replace it though.
