Any thoughts or comments? Did you find the film offensive? Brilliant film making? Total waste of time?

One of my favorites! I have the DVD special edition! Of course Chaplin made the film before the whole truth about WWII came out. He said himself that he would never have made the movie if he had known the depth of what had been done to the Jewish people. It is almost obscene to make a comedy about WWII, but he meant it as a slap in the face to Hitler, not the Jewish people. LOVE the speech at the end! I think Chaplin was the first peace loving hippie...he was ahead of his time. And who says young people don't know, I'm 26 and I'm a huge Chaplin fan.

I love that film. Really amazing. The monologue at the end is inspiring, heart wrenching and completely pertinent to this day. I'd really recommend reading the speech here:

A great film. Surprisingly, it does not seem dated when watched today. Although a satire, I found parts simply hilarious. Well worth watching.
